A warm autumn in 2015 has given this wine richness and a very well developed nose. There are warm cherry, white chocolate and strawberry flavours, with hints of pepper and cinnamon. It has soft tannins and a long, smooth finish. Riper fruit gives an alcohol level of 13.5%, and more ‘sweetness’ than previous vintages.
We’ve been growing Sangiovese for about 10 years now, and it’s been a really rewarding variety for us. Originally from Tuscany, the name means ‘Jupiter’s Blood’, and it was very popular in ancient Rome. It Italy it is often blended with other varieties, and even white wines like Chianti. It’s famous as a food friendly style – which as you should know, of which we are big fans! – and is relatively new in Australia.
